HFLA Introduces Its Newest Board Members

February 2023

Dana Epstein has lived in Austin almost 24 years and many of those years have been with her 10 lb monster of a dog, Django.

She feels pulled to volunteer with Hebrew Free Loan of Austin because HFLA can truly change someone’s life in a big way and quickly. Dana thinks it will be amazing to help facilitate those opportunities and is looking forward to connecting with the Jewish community again through a new organizational lens.

Dana comes to HFLA with expertise in nonprofit management, Jewish communal programming, real estate knowledge, and other educational interests.

Real Estate has been Dana’s 24/7 calling for the last several years, but she also enjoys checking out new restaurants in Austin, visiting with friends and past clients and traveling as much as possible. She just joined two ABOR committees as well.

Fun facts about Dana:
🧀 I love making charcuterie boards!
🪑 Browsing for staging furniture/items and recreating a space is my therapy.
🍴 I started the Jewish Austin Foodies Facebook group to help people connect with their culture in a simple way.

Stuart has been in Austin for over 30 years. He has an amazing wife Susan, two fantastic daughters, Alissa and Lucy, two dogs Lulu and Sunny, and Jack the cat.

Stuart says he was asked to join HFLA because of his involvement in the Jewish community, his previous board experience, and “my hilarious sense of humor (trust me).”

He has experience in leadership, strategy, and execution roles, and he has been involved with the grant/loan review process at another nonprofit. Most importantly, Stuart cares deeply about Hebrew Free Loan of Austin’s mission and the community we serve.

Stuart is looking forward to getting to see first hand how the funds we raise and disperse will have an immediate impact on someone in our Jewish community.

More getting to know Stuart:
“My career has been based in Program and Project management with various technology companies and IT departments. But spending time with my family is my priority! We love going to Austin FC games, and I am a Texas Longhorn fan. I try and get out to enjoy Austin’s live music as much as possible, as well as stand-up comedy. I’m looking forward to traveling again, especially because I have a passion for nature photography (on land and in the water).

I am a native Texan, and have lived in four of the major metroplexes (Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston). Did I mention my sense of humor?!?!”

Arielle Levy has been in Austin for 15 years and is engaged to her partner Max, to be married June 2023. Arielle and Max are in love with one another and their dog Diggs who is a two-year old, 70 lb, fluffy Golden Doodle.

Nothing makes Arielle happier than being a part of a large, growing Jewish community. Volunteering with HFLA is a wonderful way to reach deep into our community to make a lasting impact with the sole purpose of lifting each other up. Supporting HFLA is a constant reminder that our Jewish community is always there for one another.

As a previous Jewish professional, Arielle still really enjoys asking others to get involved with their time, treasure, and talents, especially when it comes to supporting the Jewish community. She is excited to inspire others to join her in giving to this important cause, and in addition to fundraising, Arielle brings experience in program and event planning, marketing, volunteer engagement, and relationship building expertise. too. And, of course, her genuine enthusiasm always comes along. She loves meeting new people and would love to chat with you about HFLA!

What excites me most about working more closely with HFLA is that I know what being Jewish in Austin looks like and how we can help one another here to endlessly adapt and expand. It’s incredible how much this one organization can do as HFLA supports all kinds of community members, whether you are already involved or not connected at all.

What does Arielle do with all of her time?
“You’ll find me with Max, Diggs, and likely surrounded by friends, as I love being around people. I enjoy eating out and I’m always down to do something fun, from music to comedy, to walking around Soco to relaxing at Barton Springs. I also am a member of the Jewish National Fund’s Women for Israel Committee and an AEPhi Advisor for the Omega Chapter.”

Fun facts:
🚗 Arielle has been to 35 states with the goal of visiting all 50.
✈ She visited Israel 14 times.
