This fund symbolizes our collective achievements and our unwavering commitment to helping individuals and families thrive with a hand up, not a hand out. By contributing to this fund, you join us in celebrating the successes of the past 13 years and ensuring that HFLA can continue to be a vital resource for those in need for many years to come.

Sgt. Brett Aaron Aycock Memorial Loan Fund

Sgt. Brett Aaron Aycock, ,US Army (Ret.) b. June 7, 1981 – d. February 24, 2015. A mensch through and through, Brett always went out of his way to protect an underdog, stop to help change a flat, or to protect our country.

He enlisted in the Army in 2003, becoming a member of the Reconnaissance/Scout Platoon, HHC, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry Regiment “The Rock.” He completed Air Assault training in South Korea after which he was deployed to Iraq to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom. For his service, Brett was awarded the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

Brett’s friends and family have created this fund in honor of his generosity and dedication to always help and protect those who need it most.

The Papas – Leon Horowitz & Irving Solomon

This fund is dedicated to the two grandpas that taught their children and grandchildren the meaning of family, tzedakah and Tikkun Olam. They are Leon Horowitz (Papa Lee) and Irving Solomon (Papa Irv). Both were from N.Y., both first generation Americans, both served in the Navy, and both became Texas and LongHorn fans. Although only related through the marriage of their children, Tracy Horowitz and Rob Solomon, they could have been brothers. Instead they just became the best of friends, sharing both their families’ simchas, both their December birthdays, most Jewish holidays, and all of their Austin’s grandchildren’s’ major events. Taking care of family and those less fortunate played an important part in their lives. This was the stimulus that got Tracy involved in HFLA of Austin, just as her brother, Jeff, did in the HFLA of Houston.

Although no longer with us, these two wonderful Papas leave behind loving memories and the meaning of family love.

The Dragon Matriarchs

In loving memory of our beloved parents, the heart and soul of the Dragon family. They taught us the value of love, respect, communication and laughter. They showed us the power of always supporting each other. Their bond was a shining example of friendship and love that lasted over 60 years. Their legacy lives on in our family through three generations and their stories, jokes and life lessons are passed down through each generation.
