The first time Esther reached out to a Hebrew Free Loan agency was in 1971 in New York City for a college loan. The next time she received a loan was from San Francisco – where she lived at the time – to adopt her daughter in 2002.
When she first reached out to Hebrew Free Loan of Austin in 2012, Esther didn’t know if she would qualify for a loan or what she would have to show or prove to receive the loan. Even though she was concerned about her ability to pay back the loan, she learned that there is a “community of friends and people in HFLA who are like family that will help support us.”
Esther found the application process to be “easy peasy.” The loan and subsequent loans helped pay several bills, including medical and dental bills not covered by Medicare or supplementary health insurance. The loans helped pay for her daughter’s Bat Mitzvah, provide major repairs on her car, and “most significantly,” to help her daughter go to college.
In recent years, Esther had been having many moments of financial stresses, struggling to pay rent, medical bills, and her daughter’s college expenses – all during COVID.
Esther is a proud advocate of Hebrew Free Loan of Austin. “I will say much more to anyone interested in the HFLA or anyone I can encourage to seek the best source of financial help in our community. ‘Thank you’ is not ever enough for the HFLA financial help my daughter and I have received from this vital organization.”
Esther added, “My daughter is going to graduate from college in December, and she could not have done this without HFLA. Nor could I have survived some tough times financially without HFLA help.
